In the Zagros mountains reside the Bakhtiar nomads now mainly settled in and around the south-west of the city of Isfahan and the city of Shahr-e-Kurd. The area is known for the number of its numerous small villages. Each region has its distinctive designs passed for generations from mother to daughter, and its well-guarded within the family. Some of the most known villages are Chalehshotor, Gahverokh, Shalamzar, Armanibaft, Hinegoon and Faradonbeh. They are some of the oldest tribes weaving handmade rugs in Iran.
Designs could be a medallion, Garden, Golfarang (Rose Flower) etc. The Dyes and colours are generally in vegetable dyes using a variety of bright colours, giving the carpets a charming and colourful appearance. The wool can be both hand or machine-spun, which is obtained locally and is of high durable quality and can become in time very soft and pleasant in texture. Warp and weft are generally made of cotton, although the early pre-1880 are wool foundations.
