Reviving Tradition: Garous Rugs
In the early 1990s, as a significant number of Afghan refugees were relocated to Peshawar, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan
border, the concept of creating rugs by skilled Afghan weavers was introduced as a means to provide livelihoods for
these refugees. Using traditional methods, artisans began crafting rugs from hand-spun wool and vegetable dyes,
effectively reviving ancient designs like Ziegler, Mahal, and Sultanabad.
Incorporating Kurdish Weaving Traditions
In 1995, we embraced the bold designs of the Persian Garous area, known for its distinctive Kurdish weaving techniques.
We prioritized high-quality wool and dyes, aiming to recreate the ancient, popular designs at affordable prices for
our clients. This initiative not only supported the local economy but also introduced a new generation of rugs inspired
by rich historical traditions.
Garous Designs: A Modern Classic
Today, Garous design rugs are among the most desirable and decorative options for both contemporary and traditional
home decor globally. Their unique blend of historical significance, quality craftsmanship, and vibrant designs
continues to captivate homeowners and interior designers alike.
